Victorian Country Fire Authority undertakes a 2 year trial of Mattracks in Australian Alpine conditions
Clean It Industrial Services, the Australian distributor for Mattracks has made available a set of Mattracks, the tyre to track conversion system to the Victorian Country Fire Authority for use in a 24 month trail. The aim of the trial was to determine whether the tyre to track conversion system was suitable for use on fire fighting vehicles in regional Victoria and particularly in the alpine areas.
The trial consisted primarily of the following stages: safety tests, fitting, roadworthy suitability, field testing and operations.
Safety tests were conducted at the Australian Defence Vehicle Testing facility out of Monegeetta. Comparative tests were undertaken for steering, braking, rollover and load capacity. Testing exceeded CFA expectations for all parameters.
Clean It’s Mattracks specialists Mark Dooley and John Jones provided one on one training to CFA personnel in the conversion and replacement of the tracks. Fitting post conversion was achieved within one hour.
The track fitted vehicle first attack vehicle was then taken to Mount Buller where Vic Roads completed a series of tests to determine suitability for roadworthiness. Vic Roads was satisfied that the Mattracks fitted vehicle was suitable for conditional registration.
Field testing was undertaken by our Specialist Mark Dooley and CFA Operations Officer and project coordinator Paul Horton. The vehicle was tested in a range of alpine landscapes and environments where fire response was anticipated. The Mattracks fitted first attack vehicle was able to access areas where other vehicles would struggle.
The final stage of testing included placement at the Mount Buller Fire Brigade. Prime 7 ran the following article on the outcome.
